After reading recommendations by an American author (Robert Lee Rifle), in his book 'The Tropical Look' I've been searching on the m web for Bougainvillea 'Barbara Karst' and found your site and postings etc.
Just to say, I have grown Bougainvillea glabra 'Sanderiana' outside fo ryears now in a large permanent 'tub' - ok not far from my back porch/yard but still outside both winter and summer. This year - likewise - it does not seem to have bloomed and I was searching for something I could 'buy in' as I have an open garden charity event happening on June 15th - you're all welcome if passing!!
Robert Lee Rifle also recommends as 'hardy' 'San Diego Red' ie Scarlett O'Hara. I chose Sanderiana as it was recommended by the London based Palm Center as being the hardiest and most suited tot to UK climate.
Yes, and I agree..doing maintainance in the dead heat is a chore - even with my London 'heat' by 2pm I find it too uncomfortable to do much in the garden.

Enjoy your site and community comments!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
