Great thought! I DO really like pastels , but don't hate bright colors. I esp love the bouganvillea, but can't have it here in zone 5 Utah, except in some wimpy little pot, which doesn't do it justice. I love the bird of paradise, haven't seen that one before. ONe question, do you have probs w/ a purple and red ( or orange ) next to each other that clash? Or maybe that doesn't bother you. As I said before, I love bouganvillea, but b. colors typically don't 'go' well with a lot of other things.
That Caesalpinia made my day! There's a planting median along the street that leads to my dad's house, that has a few (Camarillo, CA), but nothing with the intensity of the ones you show. Must be the heat.
BTW: PLEASE stop by my blog and tell me if you've ever seen a cactus flower do what this one is doing. "Kate smudges" figured you might have an answer.
I am in awe of your bougainvillea! And the Bird of Paradise...is that very difficult to grow? And your Bird of Paradise is just lovely :) I do like the bold colors very much!
I love every color in nature. Have you ever thought about arranging flowers or your photos in a colour wheel? I can see these specimens occupying the red, orange and magenta positions.
Thanks for all your comments. To answer some of the questions: Mumm, I try to keep clashing colors planted in different areas. Something that occurs in my garden that's unintended is different shades of the same color. I really don't like that much. Some color combos that I think wouldn't work, look surprisingly good together. Ganrat, no, these are the actual colors. Sometimes I do amp up the saturation if I need some contrast if I take a photo on a cloudy day. The colors shown today are so intense they probably needed to be toned down rather than up! Elaine, never thought of arranging the colors on a color wheel. I'll give that some thought!
A superb display all round. I've rarely managed to get mine to produce more than two or three flowers at once, but I suppose that's the price I pay for living in gloomy Northern Europe!
The pink "waterfall" of the great Bougainvillea is a dream and I like the colors of the Caesalpinia pulcherrima so much. I need a winter garden to cultivate this kind of plants! Have a great week Wurzerl

I do have some hot colours, but tend to go more for pastels. That is the reason I love looking at your blooms they are always so different to mine.

The colors are beautiful. I love the fuchsia color, and the reds. The red bird of paradise is gorgeous.
