Ferocactus cylindraceusFerocactus wislizenii
I've featured Barrel Cacti previously, but several more bloomed this past week, so I thought I'd show the how the flowers vary within and among species.
For those interested in information on Barrels, see this page or this.
So pretty. I love that little tuft in the centre Happy GTS :o)
ReplyDeleteThe colours of this cactus flower are lovely sunny colours. Sara from farmingfriends
ReplyDeleteOhh. They are quite shiny as well as pretty. Unusual to my eyes. We have one cactus in our garden. It was planted by the previous owners but I have never seen it flower - how often do they flower? What brings it on?
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely and unusual flowers :) Thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteHappy GTS!
So many Ferocactus so little time.
ReplyDeleteI envy your plant knowledge.
I really lke the creamy peach colors of the flowers.
There is something so wonderful about this thorny cactus producing these beautiful flowers.
awww ... cute flowers shots! I used to own a cactus, but when we moved to the city it just kind of withered away ...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset colours.
ReplyDeleteHi Aiyanna,
ReplyDeleteYou are just showing off now with 3 lovely photos...Lol
Do you ever wish you lived some where else or are you pleased that you can grow stuff outside thet everyone else has to grow indoors?
Cheers Mark
Really glorious flowers...
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! Always amazed by your flowers.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful flowers. Do they bloom every year. My father had some cacti that only bloomed once in a few years.
ReplyDeleteI love those colors, too. thanks for visiting my blog
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments and questions.
Dilly and Adam,
The barrels bloom once a year, usually in late August. It just happens--the cactus just knows when it's time.
Mark,
In the summer, I'd rather live anywhere but here. In the late fall, winter and spring, nowhere but here.
LOL...in a perfect world...I feel the same being in South Florida!!! Anyway, these photos are autstanding...you put my little silly blog to shame!!! You are just amazing! Congratulations on your blooms!!!
ReplyDeleteJulie
those were really interesting flowers. they kind of looked waxy. They must be very cool to see up close.
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm.....nothing quite like cactus flowers! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe colours of the flowers on the barrel cacti are beautiful. Each bloom is distinctive - the flowers look so papery.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie! You're doing a great job on your blog, so just keep it up.
ReplyDeleteDrew, the flowers are waxy. That prevents premature drying in the hot sun.
Kate, although the flowers look papery, they are actually waxy. They close in the evening, and as they wilt, they stay closed up, never to reopen again.
