Gone To Seed

Hesperaloe parviflora Seed Pod

"There are times to cultivate and create, when you nurture your world and give birth to new ideas and ventures. There are times of flourishing and abundance, when life feels in full bloom, energized and expanding. And there are times of fruition, when things come to an end. They have reached their climax and must be harvested before they begin to fade. And finally of course, there are times that are cold, and cutting and empty, times when the spring of new beginnings seems like a distant dream. Those rhythms in life are natural events. They weave into one another as day follows night, bringing, not messages of hope and fear, but messages of how things are."

  1. Today is my birthday and it was so lovely to see this unusual seed pod...it is actually so pretty...I would probably start a collection, or use in a wreath for fall or winter holidays!

  2. Happy Birthday Julie!
    Glad to see you back.

Most people cut off the Red Yucca's long flower stems, but I let them stay on as they dry because I like the mix of flowers, green pods and dried pods found on the same stem. Also, the seeds are jet black--the only other substance other than coal that I've seen that's this black. The photo doesn't capture the depth of the blackness. You're right, the pods would make a nice addition to a dried arrangement.
