Orange Jubilee

Tecoma stans 'Orange Jubilee'

October in Arizona brings bright blue skies and more vivid colors to plants that just a couple of weeks ago were sun bleached and exhausted. As cooler temperatures arrived, Tecoma stans 'Orange Jubilee' began producing larger, more profuse flowers with a far more vibrant orange coloring than before.

This T. stans hybrid grows and flowers year-round as long as we don’t have freezing temperatures. When that happens, I just cut them back and they start growing again in spring. They can grow to nine feet high in one year, as this plant did after freezing to the ground this past winter.

  3. You should post a warning in the title, so that we are prepared to that explosion of colors :-)
I like it, though. I'm a fan of vibrant colors, and the sky here is often as blue as yours.

  6. What stunning flowers. They must look amazing on a 9 foot high plant. That sky is the most perfect blue. Glad the weather has cooled a little for you. I remember being in Phoenix in late November (1993)and the weather was delightful.

  10. WOW! I just love plants like this that are fast growing and great bloomers!!! Nice pic for fall!!!

I wanted to tell you that I would be happy to send you an Oyster Plant...even to a PO Box if you wish! Also, if you don't have any Wandering Jew, I will send one of those as well. Kind of same family, but the Wandering Jew is all purple and much smaller...very proliferative!!!

  13. Hi Aiyana,
That would almost make it worth living in the heat to see that plant. You have captured it really nicely with the vibrant blooms and the blue sky

  14. The orange blooms are a beautiful contrast to the blue sky.

Frosts? Do you get frosts where you live? Actually I know you do, so I'm just kidding. ;-)

  15. Nine feet! Is it a free-standing shrubby thing or does it like to lean against a wall?

  18. Hi Aiyana,

I love the intense orange against the blue sky ... what a treat to see. Having spent the entire weekend painting autumn leaves and thinking about colour, I realise how the blue makes the orange pop out even more.

I am so envying you at the moment since it is near freezing here whereas it is 82F there. Wow!

  19. Thanks to everyone for visiting and leaving comments.

Beth, the photo is not color enhanced. I thinks there's something about the orange that makes the blue so brilliant, although our October days usually look like this.

Julie, I have Wandering Jew--in a huge planter, where it will stay! I might take you up on the other plant, but first I'm going to check with the Ag Extension Service and find out if they think it will work here. I'll let you know.

Nikkipolani, Orange Jubilee is a stand alone shrub that branches from the base. The stems are quite strong. It sways with the slightest breeze.

Kate,it was nice on Sunday, but higher temps are due again, so don't envy too soon. We've been unseasonably cool the last couple of days.
