Pink Ball Cactus

Pink Ball Cactus ~ Parodia rutilans

The flowers on this Parodia rutilans are four days old in this photo, which is really old in the world of cactus flowers. The flowers are now seven days old, and have started to wilt a bit. Tomorrow, they will close for good and go to seed.
Many cactus flowers have a waxy look, but the P. rutilans flowers have the look of straw flowers. Perhaps that is why they last so long. For more information on the cactus see this previous post.

My first thought was that they looked like pink daisies, but you're so right, they look like straw flowers. So pretty.~~Dee

Great colors. I don't think I've ever seen such a pretty cactus in bloom. The roses are beautiful, too.

Love the color. I didn't know cactus flowers were so short lived, usually!

The Pink Ball Cactus blooms are real beauties. I have to be a bit careful when telling people I like pink. I don't want them to assume it's a color I would wear. Pink is for flowers :)

Hi Aiyana,
Those paper ones always look like they have been stuck on to me, lovely flowers all the same.

Cheers Mark

Those are sooo gorgeous! And the lighting is in this photo is great too! They do look like they belong in the straw flower family.

Love that silky look, Aiyana. Makes me want to check for scent - but it probably doesn't have any!

Your flowering cacti never ceases to amaze me. This one is pretty short-lived but pretty-looking at that!

Thanks for all the comments. This cactus is such a reliable bloomer, I can count on it to produce five or six flowers each spring. This is the first time, however, that five bloomed at the same time. Number six is trailing just a bit!
