Nothing new blooming in my garden, so this ususual cactus will have to do this week. I don't know a lot about this particular Cereus hybrid, only that it is a popular addition to potted cactus arrangements sold in some nurseries. The fine red spines, quite thick at the stem tips, hide the crested forms on some of the stems. I have yet to see a Cereus species with red spines, so I'm not sure of the lineage of the C. 'Red Monster'.

This is different...red cactus instead of green!
Have a great week and try to stay cool!
Come fall/winter I'm going to enjoy your blooms when there's nothing but leafless trees and bushes in Colorado!
A red monster it certainly is. :-D Does it flower too? If so, what colour are the flowers?
We were pretty dry until this past weekend. I hope you get some rain soon. That is one interesting cactus, I've never seen one with red spines like that.
Your cactus photos are every bit as interesting as the flowers- I always learn so much from your posts!
Here is wishing you rain very soon!
This is certainly an interesting cactus! Looks like a bunch of people with spiky hair! Great Bloomin' Tuesday post, as always. Jean
Cool cactus! You have some really neat plants.
Hi! I stopped by earlier but didn't leave a comment. Thanks for stopping by my bloomin' tuesday tea party as well as my son, Justin's bloomin tuesday! He was so happy to have some visitors to his new blog.
This one is pretty neat looking...I want one! LOL!
Wow! Now that's an interesting cactus. Will it keep getting more spike and eventually fill up the pot? And will you have to transplant it then?
I keep meaning to show a picture of the one I have so maybe you can give me some suggestions on what to do wit it. Maybe this fall when things settle down a lttle.
That red monster is slightly... well, monstrous! Neat though. I haven't see one before. Don't you hate it when you can't track down a plant's heritage? It's probably some mutation of a totally boring and common species... but it's cool
I think the cactus family look good even when they are not in bloom. what a collection you have.

I was wondering the same as yolanda about the flowers? If it blooms? I have seen some that bloom and they are quite pretty...
I think cacti are so interesting.. thanks for sharing.. Kayce

Happy Blooming Tuesday on Wednesday. (Internet access problems here)
Good name for it!!!!!
TFS!
I've never tried growing a cactus - somehow I don't think I would have much success.
