Imperfect Peace

Rosa 'Peace'

I planted this rose earlier this year, for sentimental reasons. Thirty-three years ago it was the first rose I purchased for the garden I established when I bought a new home. I knew nothing about roses at the time, but I wanted to try my hand at growing a few. I chose it because I liked its color and large flower. It didn't have much of a fragrance, but since I also had 'Mr. Lincoln', I didn't need more fragrance!

When I wanted to have something in my garden besides desert plants, I decided to try roses again, so I purchased 'Peace' and Mr. Lincoln, along with five other hybrids. This is the first rose from this bush, and although it is not a perfectly shaped flower, I'm glad to have it, lopsided or not.

This time around, I'm far more interested in rose care and history than I was all those years ago. I've learned that this hybrid tea is the most famous rose of all time and is popular worldwide. It is hardy, reliable and has been around as long as I have. It was first introduced in 1945. This is the yellow blend. It also comes in a pink blend. Each rose has up to fifty petals.

It is beautiful! My roses are not doing a thing this fall- I can only figure I cut them back wrong. :(

Perfect or not, Aiyana, she is beautiful. I didn't know Peace came in 2 colors. Rose gardening takes a lot of work, but the rewards are glorious blooms. Good luck in your new gardening effort!

I think that the roses that aren't perfect are my favorite, they seem to have more character than the perfect ones do. Very pretty!

I love roses, but have not the best of luck with them. This one is pretty. I had one called Garden Party that I adored...maybe you could find one of those...they are white with a blushing faint pink edge...just gorgeous!

My mom said 'Peace' was the first rose she ever planted. She doesn't have one now (she's moved three times since she had it), but she said it's one of her favorites. I've seen the 'Chicago Peace,' which is probably the pinkish one you're talking about. I love both of them!

What a lovely rose! I like the idea of planting for sentimental reasons. It's a constant reminder of good moments from the past.

I planted this famous rose for the same reasons as you but it wasn't very happy in my garden. After four years it suddenly started to have less and less flowers und finally dissapeared. I didn't buy a new one up to now. Perhaps I should have another go.
