Golden April Carpet

A golden carpet of Palo Verde tree flowers.

Although these dropped flowers make quite a mess and actually completely cover many small cacti, I really enjoy seeing this golden carpet. I'll worry about the mess later.

  6. Wow, what a trunk that tree has! So green and smooth. The flowers are gorgeous, and the picture is very neat. I really don't envy clearing it out though.

  7. That really is pretty. Do you use a leafblower or something to clear them up? Do people in Phoenix even own leafblowers? ;)

  8. They do double duty don't they? I agree-worry about the mess later and just enjoy the beauty for now.

  9. Lythrum,
Yes, leaf blowers are used here to clean up debris. The maintenence landscapers have very powerful ones that work well with granite groundcover. I always hire a crew to do the spring blowing as I don't have a blower powerful enough to do the job. At other times of the year, I can use my smaller blower for general cleanup of Bougainvillea bracts, etc. The spring cleanup is the worst--dropped Palo Verde flowers, Mesquite leaves, catkins and later beans, Acacia tree debris, Cassia beans, etc.

  10. Follow the yellow brick, er, petal, road! It's a gorgeous street in El Dorado. I love it!

Our spring clean-up is the worst too, with tons of live oak leaves and pollen. I have to use a blower to clean it out of the agaves and prickly pear.

  11. Very impressive! I love when blooms carpet an area (like bradford pears, or wistera), so lovely, and so fleeting:)
