One Stinkin' Flower!

Huernia primulina

When I say one stinkin' flower, I mean it literally. I have only one bloom to show this week, and as it happens, it is a stinky one, and weird looking! The flower has a slight rotting flesh smell, which it uses to attract flies for pollination. It is one of the 60 species in the Huernia genus.

That is a pretty ugly flower! I usually wish I could smell the blooms but I think I'm glad I can't smell this one. I wondered where you were today.Jean

This looks an interesting plant, not sure if I'd want it in the garden because of the smell!

(I went to a really interesting talk at the Botanic Garden recently about pollination - I hadn't known that bees see colours differently, so that they see the flowers differently from us - it was fascinating!)

Ewwwwwwww, the scent of rotting flesh is not my idea of a great flower fragrance. But hey, to each his/her own. ;-) And like you said, the flower is pretty weird. ET phone home!

The flower is really different, but I do like the look. I hope you have it planted way away from the house. :)

Have a great time Wurzerl

This is so cool! I met with a local Tucson gardener awhile back and he gave me several different plants like this- but I thought he called them stapalids...anyway I can't wait for blooms!
