Cactus Mistake Bloomed Today

Echinocereus dasycanthus

This year's flower on my Texas Rainbow Hedgehog (Echinocereus dasycanthus) has a more peachy color on the outer petals than it did last year. It will be interesting to watch over the next few days to see if the flower changes as it gets older. Some cactus flowers do--others don't.

The weather affects the light-colored cactus flowers more than the darker shades, and with the temperatures expected to be in the mid-nineties, the flowers may quickly fade or even take on a different hue. We'll see.

I acquired this Echinocereus species by mistake, but I'm glad to have it. See the link above for the previous post on this cactus.

These are all beautiful. Cactus to me seem like some amazing specimen you'd find in the deep sea. Wonderful.

I have that problem of being unable to remove plants as well. Thus the yellow tulip in my blue garden....
